On a sunny November afternoon,ย MSU African students walked out of Burlington Coat Factory with something most take for granted โ a warm winter jacket. A total of 19 jackets were purchased for the students.ย For many of these students from Nigeria, Burundi, Malawi, and Ghana, it was their first winter in the United States.
The event was made possible by a generous donation from Mrs. Dorene Etarock Tsewole, CEO of African Kitchens Meals LLC, a proud MSU ASO alumna-owned business. Mrs. Etarock personally spent the afternoon shopping alongside the students, helping each one pick out a jacket that fit both their size and style.
This event reflects the core of MSU ASO’s philanthropic mission: ensuring that our students โ especially international students far from home โ are supported through every season, literally and figuratively. No student should have to face a Texas winter without a proper coat, and no student from our community will, as long as alumni continue to rally behind them.
A Message From the President
“We are deeply grateful to Mrs. Etarock for her generosity and her hands-on commitment to our students. Her example is exactly what we hope to see more of. I am formally encouraging every alumni-owned business in our network to consider how they can support our next philanthropic event. Whether it’s a product donation, a service, or mentorship โ every contribution strengthens the students who will one day be our fellow alumni.”
